Farm Tenuta Sovestro

The "birth" of Tenuta Sovestro dates back to the 17th century.
The former property of the convent of the Olivetan friars, it passed into the municipal heritage of Colle Val d'Elsa in 1776 and then was returned over time to the municipality of San Gimignano.

The agricultural tradition of our land has been documented since ancient times, as early as 1785 as shown by the Cabreo (the ancient official land registry of the time) where the terrain was registered and classified as "vineyards" and "olive groves" for the fact of being positioned “one to the south and the other to the north of the house” of “Tenuta Sovestro”.

And it is precisely from these vineyard and olive groves that our wines and our extra virgin olive oil are born, thanks to the commitment and passion of Alessia and Barbara Failli who have been owners of the estate since 2017.
Tuscany is a land of fine wines with a thousand-year old history. In this context, our Tenuta Sovestro was born with the aim to carry on the winemaking tradition of San Gimignano with an innovative and sustainable approach.
In the cellar, the wines are vinified using traditional methods but with a modern approach which aims to enhance the characteristics of each grape variety.

Alessia and Barbara look to the future, but do not forget their origins. The wines produced are the result of passion, hard work and a profound knowledge of the territory. Their wines tell a story: the story of a land and a people who have always loved wine.

The main wines are produced with Sangiovese grapes (the Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino grape) and with Vernaccia di San Gimignano (the only white denomination in Tuscany), two native vines of these lands.

The company's objective is to produce wines that are pleasant and intriguing, capable of providing emotions with every sip: balanced, harmonious, fresh wines, with a good aromatic complement and an adequate structure. We make wines that don't get boring after the first glass and that can be appreciated by everyone.

The property extends for a total of 15 hectares, of which approximately 6.5 hectares are vineyards. There are approximately 600 olive trees for a further 2/3 hectares (although it is difficult to quantify because in addition to the olive grove there are olive trees scattered throughout the estate).

The property is at an average height of 250 meters above sea level in one of the best exposures for vineyards. The soils are fresh and composed mostly of clay and tuff, a characteristic of this area.

The vineyards are cultivated using the Guyot method and grassing is practiced in alternate rows, one row is always left grassed and the other is worked, in an attemp to reduce processing to a minimum.

Tenuta Sovestro offers a unique experience: a journey to discover the flavors and aromas of Tuscany thanks also to our da Pode restaurant, which our family has managed for almost half a century. Our wines are ideal for accompanying life's special moments, for celebrating and sharing memories.

Reviews Tenuta Sovestro

This hotel is absolutely stunning. The pictures really don’t do it justice - the views are just the best I have ever seen. Wonderful service, great food, beautiful pool and facilities (facilities are shared with Hotel Sovestro which is right next door). Shuttle service into San Gimignano was brilliant. Agree with other comments that it’s best to get the shuttle in as it’s quite a steep walk, and walk back and enjoy the views. We really can’t wait to visit here again already and will absolutely be recommending to family and friends!

Lovely room with plenty of character and space. Spotlessly clean with excellent bathroom and room facilities. A little more expensive than the neighbouring hotel but the room made up for the small price difference, plus you can use the hotel facilities at your leisure
