Where wine begins with the land

Wine Tasting in San Gimignano

A wine tasting at Tenuta Sovestro is often the first encounter between our guests and us.

Less than 2 km from San Gimignano, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves in the Tuscan countryside, we offer tastings of local wines. They are designed for wine lovers and for the simply curious alike: for anyone who wants to understand how we care for our vines and produce wines that guests come back to year after year.

Wine tastings at our San Gimignano winery

We welcome you into our home and share what we do every day, with passion.

Every tasting is led by a member of our family or someone who has worked alongside us for years. They know the vineyards, the seasons, the decisions made in the cellar, and they talk about them with knowledge but always in a natural, unhurried way.

We like to explain wine for what it is: the result of a territory, a climate and patient, careful work.

Tastings take place in our cosy indoor tasting room or, when the weather allows, outdoors with views across the Tuscan hills. There is one thing we are sure you will appreciate: here, time slows down. Wine becomes an occasion to stop and be present.

Wines and territory

San Gimignano in your glass

Our wines come from grapes grown in the vineyards surrounding the estate. The same is true of our extra virgin olive oil, made from olives from local groves. This direct connection to the land is what gives identity to the wines we taste together.

Joining a tasting at the estate is a chance to get to know more closely:

  • Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, the iconic white wine of this territory and the first Italian wine ever to receive a DOC designation
  • Chianti DOCG, one of Tuscany’s most prestigious wines
  • our IGT Toscana wines, our interpretations of white, rosé and red wines

We are a winery in San Gimignano that values direct storytelling, grounded in facts and experience. Our tastings become authentic moments.

Our wine tasting experiences

Each tasting follows a different path, but they all share the same spirit: simplicity, quality and the right amount of time to listen.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a white wine produced exclusively in the area around San Gimignano. It was the first Italian wine to receive a DOC designation in 1966 and was later promoted to DOCG. It is a dry, elegant wine with a distinctive mineral character, closely tied to the local terroir. At Tenuta Sovestro, Vernaccia is at the heart of what we do.

The San Gimignano area is home to several wineries, each with its own character. What makes Tenuta Sovestro different is that we are a family-run estate where everything, from the vineyards to the cellar to the tasting, happens in one place. There is no bus, no commercial tour: just our family, our wines and the landscape around us.
